From my experience and listening to other butches it really does go to a you issue. I had major internalized homophobia and misogyny. To be clear, I’m not saying that society doesn’t play a huge role in developing self hate. But at the end of the day, the world isn’t going to change for you. You gotta learn how to live in this world. It is possible.
That said, I disagree on the “you chose to look like a man”. I was getting told I was acting like a boy since I was a kid. I could dress feminine and still get called out for acting like a dude. So not sure about the choice part here. I don’t feel like I chose to be butch.
